The Southwest Scoliosis Institute is a special resource for physicians and patients — one that is committed to innovative treatments for spinal deformity, within the framework of a patient-centered and physician-friendly atmosphere.

The Institute emphasizes continuity of care. Patients of all ages are treated at the Institute, from adolescents to adults, and families whose children are treated at the Institute will have the same physicians care for them once they reach adulthood. This approach allows life long treatment plans to be implemented without interruption.

ScoliScoreTM AIS Prognostic Test

ScoliScore is a clinically validated, multi-gene test that provides a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the likelihood of spinal curve progression for patients who have been diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), the most common type of scoliosis. The ScoliScore is leading the way to individualized scoliosis treatment by providing patient-specific information that is used to help health care providers personalize treatment plans.

The ScoliScore AIS Prognostic Test is intended for patients:

  1. With a primary diagnosis of (AIS)
  2. Between the ages of 9 and 13 years old
  3. With a mild scoliotic curve (defined as < 25°)
  4. Of Caucasian ethnicity (North American, South American, European, Eastern European, Middle Eastern)

How is the ScoliScore Test Interpreted?

Using a scale of 1 — 200, the risk of progression increases with increasing test score. Given the tightness of the confidence intervals at the extremes, intervals of group risk were identified as follows:

  • In indicated patient with a score in the low risk range of 1 &mdash 50 has a >99% probability that she or he will not experience progression to a severe curve.
  • In clinical trial, 75% of the patients tested fell into the low risk category, while 24% were in the intermediate risk group.
  • Only 1% fell into the high risk group
Low Risk 1-50
Intermediate Risk 51-180
High Risk 181-200
